Honoring Caregivers on National Caregiver Day

February 19, 2026

February 20 is National Caregiver Day, a day to recognize the countless caregivers who devote their time, energy, and hearts to supporting friends, neighbors and loved ones. Caregiving is an act of compassion, but it can also be overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally complex. No one should have to navigate that journey alone.

At Trellis, our Dementia Care Navigation program exists to walk alongside caregivers with understanding, practical tools, and consistent support. Every day, our navigators build trusting relationships that help caregivers feel more confident and less alone in the challenges they face.

Recently, we received a powerful reflection from a caregiver whose experience captures the impact of this work. She shared how her Dementia Care Navigator, Camile Nash, has become an essential partner in caring for her parents, who both live with Alzheimer’s. Through regular check‑ins, deep listening, and patient guidance, Camile has helped her navigate difficult moments with new strategies—like using improvisation to step into her mother’s reality rather than correcting it. One line from her testimonial stands out:

“I was worried about bringing my parents to holiday gatherings this year. Camile helped me think about sending an email to my aunts and cousins before these family celebrations updating them on how my parents have changed, and ways to make them feel most comfortable.”

With Camile’s support, this caregiver has gained:

  • A deeper understanding of Alzheimer’s and the stages of the disease
  • Greater confidence in interpreting neurology reports
  • Access to trusted educational resources and support groups
  • Guidance on preparing family for holiday gatherings
  • Encouragement to participate in caregiver‑focused research studies
  • Courage to explore clinical trials that may one day contribute to a cure

She describes the program as a “wrap‑around service” that has helped her approach caregiving more courageously and with renewed motivation and joy.

Stories like hers remind us why Dementia Care Navigation is so essential. Caregivers deserve a partner who listens, who understands the complexities of dementia, and who offers steady, compassionate guidance through each new stage.

To every caregiver: we honor you today and every day. Your resilience, your advocacy, and your unwavering love make all the difference.

If you or someone you know is supporting a person living with dementia, our team is here to help. Learn more about our Dementia Care Navigation program.
