Throughout May, we’re celebrating Older Americans Month and the 60th anniversary of the Older Americans Act (OAA)—a landmark law that has transformed aging services across the country.
Annually, the OAA helps millions of older Americans access the care, resources and support we all need to age with dignity. Locally, Trellis brings the OAA to life by transforming these dollars into community-based services—like home-delivered meals, caregiver support and transportation—that help more than 30,000 older adults every year.
But it is so much more than just numbers. It’s our family members, friends, and neighbors.
It’s Tanya who receives respite and caregiver support services as she cares for her mother, Jane, allowing her to live out her life in the place she calls home. And Maria who gets transportation for medical appointments, groceries, and other essentials.
While the OAA provides vital services for so many people, there are major threats to the ability of older adults to age well at home and in the community. That’s why we’re launching the “60 for 60” campaign—a special opportunity for you to both support Trellis’ local impact and advocate for continued federal funding. Please consider taking these two important steps:
- Contact your members of Congress and let them know the critical role the legislation plays in our community. Find sample language to contact your federal legislators.
- Make a $60 one-time gift or a $5 monthly donation to Trellis to support a future where everyone can thrive as we age.
Thank you for being part of this important mission!
