Support Trellis and grow your professional skills while being part of a great nonprofit! This long-term, regularly scheduled volunteer role takes place at our office in Arden Hills, and it is a perfect fit for those who love volunteering consistently and enjoy an early start to the day.

Please note: At this time, we only have our Friday morning shift available.

Volunteer Benefits

  • Be a vital team member for a nonprofit that positively impacts the lives of older adults and caregivers.
  • Expand your social network and increase your professional development opportunities.
  • Complimentary tea and/or coffee while volunteering.
  • Receive volunteer mileage reimbursement.
  • On slow days, feel free to work on homework or read a book; this opportunity is perfect for students!

Volunteer Role

  • Be welcoming. Be the first face visitors see at Trellis. Open the office at 7:30 a.m. and oversee the reception desk.
  • Light front desk duties include checking in visitors, answering the phone, and brewing the morning coffee.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Basic computer skills. Average computer use includes: typing, navigating a Windows operating system, and using Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
  • Basic phone skills. A Front Desk Volunteer is comfortable answering the phone, transferring calls, taking messages, and providing basic information about Trellis.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of older adults, persons with disabilities, and other diverse populations.
  • Compliance with agency non-conflict of interest, confidentiality, and other policies, including finishing an online data privacy training course.

Time Investment

Front Desk Volunteers are scheduled Monday – Friday, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. You let us know what day you consistently want to be scheduled for volunteering. We ask all Front Desk Volunteers for a minimum commitment of 2 hours per week and a minimum commitment of one year to the program. Volunteers are responsible for logging their volunteer, educational, and training time in our online portal.
