Grandparent Caregiver Counseling

Individual or family counseling to grandparent/kinship caregivers of children under 18 that provides the caregiver support with goal setting, problem-solving, and planning related to their caregiving role. 

Counselors are trained to work with older adult caregivers and children to understand and address the complex physical, behavioral, and emotional challenges related to their grandparent/caregiver roles. 

Grandparent Caregiver Support Groups

This group service is led by a trained professional to facilitate discussions around common experiences and concerns in older adult grandparent/kinship caregiving and to build a mutual support system for these caregivers.

Grandparent Caregiver Training

Education and training for older adult grandparent/kinship caregivers to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to provide, manage and cope with assuming the role of primary caregiver to a child under 18. May include training in providing personal care for a child; determining and mitigating risk factors; caring for mental health illnesses; and navigating school, healthcare, guardianship and other systems related to caring for a child. 

Resource Navigation for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

This service links older adult grandparent/kinship caregivers to resources that are available within their community to support children.

Public Information Sessions for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

This service provides information to older adult grandparent/kinship caregivers about available statewide services. Such services are conducted at in-person presentations to the public, a booth or exhibit at a fair, conference or another public event. Additionally, public information may be distributed on the radio, TV or website event. 

Grandparent Caregiver Respite

This service provides older adult grandparent/kinship caregivers a brief period of relief or rest by offering temporary, substitute care for the grandchild/relative child. 

Grandparent Caregiver Technology

Assistance with technology that gives an older adult grandparent/kinship caregiver confidence to utilize technology that supports their role as a guardian/caregiver for a child This service allows caregivers to engage in communication, support schoolwork and other aspects related to caring for a child.
